Child Protection

The protection of children is everyone’s responsibility hence all children have a right to grow up protected from harm. At Child Alert Foundation (CAF) we believe Children are the seeds of communities and their growth will depend on the nature of care and support they will receive from the members of the communities. We are committed to supporting parents and caregivers to protect children by offering assistance that builds on a family’s strengths and empowers them to meet the changing needs of their children. We work with parents and caregivers to create safe and protective environment in which children are safe and feel safe to develop their full potentials. We undertake sensitization activities in schools for both Teachers and Students and in the communities to drum home the need for everyone to protect Children and the Children to protect themselves. CAF also establish and train Right of the Child clubs in Schools.

Youth and Women Empowerment (Gender)

Empowerment is the process of increasing the capacity of individuals or groups to make choices and to transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes. The youth are the backbone of a society hence their participation in all aspects of society is very vital in the total transformation agenda of society. At CAF, Children and young people are encouraged to take charge of their lives. They do this by addressing their situations and then take action in order to improve their access to resources and transform their consciousness through their beliefs, values, education and attitudes. Adolescent sexual and reproductive health refers to the physical and emotional wellbeing of adolescents and includes their ability to remain free from unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortion, STIs (including HIV/AIDS), and all forms of sexual violence and coercion. Women’s empowerment is a cross-cutting priority at CAF, as we recognise the synergies between Children safety and Development. When women are living safe, fulfilled and productive lives, they can reach their full potential and better support their families. Women will be supported with new skills to improved their lives.

Adolescent Sexual Health and Right

(ASHR) has been overlooked historically despite the high risks that the Nation face for its neglect. Adolescents constitute an important segment of every society but unfortunately; this large but vulnerable group is not adequately prepared for sexual and reproductive life. Some of the
challenges faced by adolescents across the world include early pregnancy and parenthood. Most of them lack basic information about their bodies, sexuality, contraception and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including Human Immuno-deficiency Virus/Acquired Immune  Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) also sociocultural factors restrict the delivery of information and services; healthcare workers often act as a barrier to care by failing to provide young people with supportive, nonjudgmental, youth-appropriate services. CAF would serve a preferred channel of chose to educate and psychologically prepare them in the area of:

  • Reproductive health.
  •  Adolescent health.
  • Maternal health.
  • Contraception.
  •  Sexually transmitted infection.
  • Abortion.
  • Female genital mutilation.
  • Child and forced marriage
  •  ETC.

Peace and Security

Child Alert Foundation (CAF) is committed to advancing peace and security as integral elements of a safe and protective environment for children. Understanding that children are among the most vulnerable in conflict and crisis situations, CAF prioritizes their safety, rights, and well-being through a comprehensive and strategic approach.

CAF’s mandate encompasses the following key areas:

1. Advocacy for Child Protection in Conflict Zones
CAF champions the rights and protection of children in regions affected by conflict and violence. This involves:

  • Raising awareness about the devastating impact of armed conflict on children.
  • Advocating for policies and legislative frameworks that prioritize children’s safety and well-being.
  • Collaborating with national and international stakeholders to implement effective protective measures and ensure compliance with international child protection standards.

2. Integration of Peace Education

CAF incorporates peace education into its programming to nurture a culture of nonviolence and mutual respect among children and youth. Key activities include:

  • Organizing workshops, community dialogues, and school-based initiatives to educate young people on conflict resolution, tolerance, and the principles of peaceful
    coexistence.
  • Developing curricula and resources that empower educators and community leaders to promote peace and conflict management.

3. Empowerment of Youth as Peacebuilders

Recognizing the pivotal role of young people in fostering sustainable peace, CAF actively engages youth as agents of positive change through:

  • Leadership programs that equip young people with the skills and knowledge to
advocate for peace, security, and social cohesion in their communities.
  • Community-based initiatives that provide platforms for youth to contribute to local peacebuilding efforts and participate in decision making processes that affect their lives.

4. Support and Rehabilitation for Vulnerable Children

  • Educational and vocational training opportunities to empower children and youth to rebuild their lives and contribute to their communities.

5. Capacity Building and Collaboration

  •  Training and capacity-building programs that equip stakeholders with the tools and knowledge to effectively address the challenges faced by children in conflict zones.
  • Strengthening partnerships with local, national, and international organizations to create a coordinated and impactful response to child protection and peacebuilding.

The Child Alert Foundation is dedicated to creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where children can grow and thrive, free from the threat of violence and insecurity.

Through its advocacy, education, and empowerment efforts, CAF is at the forefront of safeguarding the rights and future of
children in conflict and crisis situations, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.

Advocacy, Capacity Building /Training

Advocacy is one of the foremost approaches for engaging children and young people. Children and young people have become critical stakeholders and advocates in achieving the ‘child rights agenda’. Youth empowerment and Adolescent development is core for Child Alert Foundation, we are certain when young people stand for their principles and understand the impact of their voices, they can represent their families and communities with pride, courage, and ability. We believe the youth can also play an important role in building and maintaining opportunities for all youth to meet and socialize in a non-discrimination environment. To us, investment in Children and Youth is a priority, not a choice. Thus, provides a platform for Children and young people from diverse backgrounds to come together and be trained as advocates in order to raise awareness amongst policy makers on issues that are essential that will enhance their total development. CAF uses Workshops, Seminars, Role Play, Focus Group Discussions and Forums to allow Parents, Caregivers, Teachers and all who works with Children to acquire new skills and sharpen existing ones. The purpose of our trainings is to raise awareness on emerging issues and how to take appropriate action to address them in safe and appropriate ways.

Research

Our research is dedicated to identifying best practices and uncovering gaps in the Child Protection, Education, Health, and Environmental sectors. By thoroughly analyzing these areas, we aim to advocate for and promote evidence-based solutions that enhance the well-being and development of children. Our work involves developing and implementing strategic recommendations that drive continuous improvement and foster sustainable outcomes. We collaborate with stakeholders, policymakers, and communities to ensure that our findings translate into meaningful actions, ultimately creating safer, healthier, and more supportive environments for children to thrive.
